Ibiza is the third
largest of the Balearic Islands and has a reputation for its nightlife
but there is far more to Ibiza than discos & bars, move away from the
resorts & you will find an Island that offers beauty & culture.
Together
with Formentera Ibiza forms the "Pitiusas" islands, meaning
"islands of pine trees". The island enjoys an excellent year round
climate but it is far busier during the summer months although the
winter offers some great deals.
Ibiza is
known locally as the White Island due to Moorish influences on its
architecture which the Island has maintained as an identity.
The
island became a gathering place during the 1960s for the
"Hippie-Culture" and nudist beaches, many of the hippies were
reluctant to leave and today are part of the culture of Ibiza with
there hippie market selling all types of crafted souvenirs.
Ibiza
has now become a major holiday destination and has ample to offer for
families and older visitors, as well as the younger visitors who are
attracted by the island's world famous club scene.
Leave
the tourist resorts behind you to explore the island's interior, you
will find a pure and simple Mediterranean culture, and remains of
populations which inhabited Ibiza thousands of years ago, as for
instance the famous wall-paintings of Ses Fontelles.
The climate of the Island
offers springtime temperatures almost throughout the year with
cooling breezes through the hotter days of the summer..
